Vanserg Building

In the summer of 2017, the Vanserg Building’s second-floor classrooms underwent significant renovations, transforming from small, cramped seminar and lecture rooms into spacious, flexible learning environments designed to meet the teaching and learning needs of the Faculty of Arts and Sciences (FAS). All rooms contain lightweight, movable chairs with large work surfaces allowing instructors and students to quickly reconfigure the room to support a variety of learning activities. Notably, two new features have been added to the area: a small meeting room that can host 8-10 people and a central common space where students and faculty can gather before or after class. Furthermore, all classroom technology has been updated to ensure it is both current and easy to use.

During the academic year, Vanserg classrooms are scheduled by the FAS Registrar’s Office through EMS and are thus available to any FAS faculty member. The rooms are also available to book through the FAS Roombook system.

Vanserg Common Space

Overview

The Vanserg Common Space is the centerpiece of the second-floor classroom renovation project. It provides soft comfortable seating for groups to gather before or after class. Behind the sound-dampening panels, one will find barstool seating, whiteboards, as well as USB and power outlets for charging devices. In addition, the space provides a nice balance of natural, ambient, and accent lighting.
